hectic times

I think it will be a short post today... A door mutilated my middle finger today so I'm struggling to type effectively.

I just wanted to give a quick update about my new found love. (I know, I go through a lot of these...) The exciting thing about this one is that it's a sport. For those who don't know me, I come from a family of very athletic people, but I'm clumsy, have poor hand-eye coordination and am just generally unmotivated by competitive sports. So, my finding a sport I want to watch, let alone participate in is incredible.

Roller Derby, a full contact (what? I'm generally nonviolent!), roller skating game involving either speed or the ability to dodge, block and biff the opposing team in an attempt to score points. I'm terrible at trying to sum up the rules so go check out the wiki-page.

I recently found out there's a league starting up in bendigo, so I went to watch a training session and see if someone as clumsy as myself would be able to play a game that involves staying upright on eight wheels while being attacked by another team... Turns out a lot of the girls are just starting out and everyone was super friendly and fun. So I think I'm going to head along to another training session to watch some more while I save up for all the protective gear one needs to participate in such a brutal sport.

just a little excited,

she will be mine, oh yes. she will be mine.

So I got one... I found it on ebay and the CMYK is sold out in the local stores, it was good value, it's so gosh darned pretty. Ok, these are just justifications for the fact that I should have been spending my money more wisely or just not spending it at all. But I LOVE this camera, I HAD to have this camera.

I've drooled over lomo cameras on and off for years, and when I saw THIS Diana f+, in all it's technicolour glory I went all mushy inside. And in 4 - 9 days, postal service depending, she WILL be mine. Can I get a 'whoop whoop'?!*

xo.

* (p.s: did the 'whoop whoop' work? or was it a little odd? It's ok, you can be honest....)

She's leavin' on a jet plane....

My baby sister's plane just landed safely in Georgia. Now the real adventure starts for her, so much is opening up for her - it will be all sorts of exciting.

The airport was hard, with 4 full carloads of people to see her off... The departures lounge was awash with tears. That kid is not short of love, that's for sure. I was so proud of her, all her years of hard work on the soccer pitch and in the class room has paid off in spades. She's now got the chance to immerse herself in a whole new world for 4 years, not something a lot of people have the chance to do. But she wouldn't be there without all that effort, sacrifice and determination.

She's wise beyond her years, and was so very brave. I'm not worried for her at all - she makes friends easily and embraces new experiences with vigor. I sure am going to miss her though.

I've actually got a surprise for her in one of my next few posts, which I'll upload when she's settled in what will be her home for the next 4 years.

Stef, sweetness, I'm so proud I could burst. Be safe, have fun and talk often.

SO much love,
your Big big sister
